In this video, I explain a process I use to finish hardware & groovebox track production by layering additional sonic elements in a DAW. I use my Teenage Engineering EP133 supplemented by my Korg MS-20 Mini, my Novation Bass Station II and my Elektron Digitone.

I wrote the majority of this techno track on my EP133 by itself, but I wanted to take it a step further. There were sonic elements that I could hear in my mind's ear that I just couldn't seem to coax out of the sampler alone. I purposely left sparse, empty areas in the patterns of the groovebox knowing I would come back and fill those areas out using other synths; layering it all together in my DAW.

So, the core production is mostly a DAWless process but the finishing touches (the "polish" perhaps) come from the supplemental instruments and added composition done in the digital environment. This video discusses that process with examples and then finishes with the finalized production.
