The Eclipse Of Our Soul was conceived as a reflection on the collapse of Western society. The visuals juxtapose the banality of a serene beach scene with the harsh reality of a desert that leads to nowhere, symbolizing a future we seem unable—or unwilling—to change. Inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni’s Zabriskie Point and Richard Prince’s Apocalypse: Beauty and Horror in Contemporary Art, my goal was to contrast the familiar comforts of life with the looming shadow of social and environmental disasters.
Even though many of us are aware of these impending crises, we often watch like the photographer in the film—detached, observing but not acting. Worse still, some of us are like the girl floating with her eyes closed, who only imagines the destruction, but remains passive and isolated from its reality.
This project, both sonically and visually, is my meditation on the uncertainty surrounding our collective fate and the troubling passivity with which we approach it. The radioactive imagery, the floating girl, and the surreal transitions are all metaphors for our inability to act, even when we see what’s coming.
