Coming up, a band that took over radio with 6 hits in the late 70s. Soft rock kings…Firefall. They ruled radio with You Are the Woman and Just Remember I Love You and then up and disappeared in the 80s. These are classic hits we still listen to today and they were written and sung by a master of am gold, Rick Roberts…. I’ve wondered for the longest time what happened to Firefall and Rick so I tracked him down and drove across several states to talk to him… Up next I solve a music mystery as this lost singer-songwriter tells me the story of a 70s classic that half a dozen women have sworn is about them but we get the truth... plus another classic that is so smooth it’s like a big stick of butter set to music but come to find out it was a famous serial killer’s favorite song. Up next we travel to beautiful Colorado to get the stories of the songs.

I’m excited to bring you another episode from our series Revelations- where featured artists go deep on their greatest songs and albums. Methodical interviews on these songs with the artists you won’t find anywhere else. So we have another mystery to solve today… As I’ve shared before My dad raised me on radio. He brought me up on Rock from the Beatles to Zeppelin to Sabbath and the Oldies but Goodies like Del Shannon and Dion and the Belmont’s and the singer-songwriters of the 70s like James Taylor and Joni Mitchell to the soft rock of the late 70s and early 80s and one of the bands that stood out in that movement was the Colorado band Firefall. They Had 6 hits in a small space of time from 1976 to 1980 including You Are the Woman, Just Remember I Love You, and Strangway Classics we still hear today and most to their hits were written and sung by Rick Roberts. So it’s nearly 45 years since their last hit and since the original band fractured. So what happened to them.

Well I decided to track Rick down, so I drove to Boulder Colorado to sit down with Rick and get the stories behind these songs. Some quick stats: Firefall was formed in Boulder in 1974. It was founded by, Rick Roberts Who was a former member of the Flying Burrito Brothers, and Jock Bartley, who had been Tommy Bolin's replacement in Zephyr later Other members from Mark Andes, Larry Burnett, David Muse, and Michael Clarke, would contribute. You are the Woman was their biggest Hit and Rick would say throughout the years that about a half dozen women around the country have bragged that the song was written about them. But the song was written about the girl that Rick was dreaming of who happened to be his future wife…. With its unmistakable flute played by David Muse. The light fm classic was written while Rick was binging on cocaine. He presented to the band that had a two-guitar attack and was aiming to be a heavier rock band and they hated the song. they all rolled their eyes when Rick sang it but they knew it would be a smash hit…. Then there is Just Remember I Love You. A slice of late 70s AM Gold that takes me back to some of the first songs...
