It all started with a MIDI splitter, a handful of synths, a guitar loop pedal and cassette recorder.
I'd always thought of MIDI as the brightly-coloured blocks on a piano roll inside a DAW. I knew that it controlled my software synths inside the computer, but I had no idea it was essentially a robot language which is spoken by musical instruments and hardware gear through physical cables.

Most of the equipment I've ever owned has had some sort of MIDI input/output but I'd always ignored it. In the same way that some businesses still have fax machine numbers that you can ignore, because surely no one is actually using it? I'm glad I did though because I had A LOT OF FUN.

Towards the end of the lockdown, I bought a handful of MIDI cables and a splitter and set up this cool rig to allow me to jam live, and in this instance, I turned that jam into a song (A song called "Holes"). I only recently mixed the final track and bounced it into the computer.

Gear used:
Korg Electric 2
MFB-301 Pro
Korg Volca FM
MIDI Stuff
Tascam 688 Cassette Recorder
MixWizard (Big Blue)

If you've come this far, you may be interested to know I've started a Patreon account (patreon.com/SleepingOrchard). I'm not going to be pushing it and there's nothing on there just yet...BUT I thought it would be cool to have one as people have been really kind in supporting my hobby so far! I'll gradually get around to thinking about what I can offer in terms of extras and behind the scenes art (I don't feel I make "content", I like to still think of it as art for now haha, humour me in this at least). Maybe extended episodes, early access, behind the scenes and a deeper insight into more elements of the songs. I'm not sure if anyone watching this video has scrolled down this far haha, but if you have, please do suggest things I could 'offer' as part of a monthly Patreon thing in the comments :D
