Chillin' was setup by Helium and Lifeforce. The studios were generally in Tower Blocks in Hackney, East London, which were scheduled for demolition, but they moved around a lot.
The studios were very basic - two record decks, a tape deck, and a very small speaker. One studio was infested with cockroaches, and another full of pigeons and pigeon shit!
The broadcast equipment was very good, making them number one for the DTI at one point.
A lot of big name DJs were keen to get on there as they were one of the first to go on air after the law had changed (Entertainments (Increased Penalties) Act 1990) An Act to increase the penalties for certain offences under enactments relating to the licensing of premises or places used for dancing, music or other entertainments of a like kind.
