What killed 90s alternative metal? Bands like Danzig, Rollins Band and White Zombie were a much-needed breath of fresh air for the metal scene. Some of what I talk about:
- How 80s metal had grown stagnant, dominated by hair metal and thrash (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer)
- The role of the "college rock" scene: The Cure, The B52s, REM, U2, etc
- The funk metal fad of 1989-90: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Faith No More, Living Colour, and my favorites Mordred
- How Nirvana's "Nevermind" and Metallica's black album helped open the door
- The Lollapalooza 1991 tour with Janes Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Rollins Band and more
- The golden years, with bands like Helmet, Fear Factory, Ministry, Primus, Tool, Type O Negative, Life Of Agony, Rage Against The Machine, GWAR and more
