The Outsiders
Profile:
Swedish prog/psychedelic rock group from Stockholm, active 1965 - 1969, a trio that played a dense psychedelic rock that drew inspiration from Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Steppenwolf.

The Outsiders was formed by Thomas Hermelin (guitar / vocals), Sten Plutten Larsson (bass) and Per Björkman (drums / vocals). The trio stood out early among the pop bands in Stockholm when they played an unusually wild and noisy rock without trying to imitate their idols. Thomas Johansson (concert organizer) discovered the band as a 16-year-old and hung out and booked gigs at youth centers in the Stockholm area. "Kinda Dead" became a cult hit and was filmed by Swedish Television for the program Popside under the direction by Lasse Hallström.

In 1969, The Outsiders were in London, performing at clubs such as The Marquee Club and Revolution Nightclub and The Speakeasy Club, as well as recording a demo for Mercury Records. The record company promised a multi-year contract and a first tour to Brazil, but bassist Sten Plutten Larsson did not want to go to South America and thus the collaboration with Mercury was history. Shortly afterwards, Thomas Hermelin left The Outsiders and was replaced by the British Roye Albrighton, who together with Larsson and the new drummer Börje Welén kept the band alive for a couple of months.
