5 Mistakes Wedding Filmmakers Make

Today I've got a wedding filmmaking tutorial to give you guys some more wedding video tips and tricks! When you are figuring out how to film weddings there are tons of things to learn, both creatively and from a business standpoint, and it can be a lot to handle. Fortunately, there have been many wedding videographers before you who have made mistakes, myself included. So, in this video I want to go over five mistakes that wedding videographers make.

I have seen these mistakes again and again in the wedding industry, but with the tips in this video, you should be able to avoid many of the pitfalls that could set you back when learning how to make better wedding films.

Mistake number one is not using a contract. you may be asking yourself "do I need a contract for my business" and the answer is absolutely yes. Answering the question of what to put in a wedding video contract is tough, but I share a bit about why you need a contract.

Next mistake is using a gimbal for your wedding films too early. I know that may be a bit controversial but I firmly believe it will not let you learn how to make better wedding films and will actually harm you if done too early.

Number three is not using lights for your weddings. Specifically for receptions, even if you are using the best low light camera or the best camera for weddings your work will look much better if you use a light.

Number 2 mistake is overbooking yourself. It is far too easy to experience burnout and a lot of that comes from taking on far too many bookings.

Last, and most importantly is the mistake people make when pricing. How much to charge for wedding videography is completely dependent on you and your company. Your pricing is not a magic number you pick, it should be based on your cost of doing business. So, use a codb calculator to figure out what you need to be charging to maintain a sustainable wedding video business.
