What's the worst travel mistake you've ever made? Because one of us just made a pretty big one and it got our travels off to a rough start!

In this casual travel vlog we'll take you from Calgary to Frankfurt, but getting there is no easy feat! Now that our Canadian home base is in rural Alberta somewhere at the foot of the Rockies, getting to the airport involves a 1-hour drive and a 3-hour bus ride. In this video, we'll share the journey of getting to Germany.

– We kick things off at a rural Circle K, grabbing a “gas-station Egg McMuffin” before the once-daily bus to Calgary. Missing it would’ve left us stranded!

• Scenic Prairie Bus Ride
– Three hours of golden prairie vistas flew by. Autumn colours, swans on roadside ponds… perfect remedy for pre-flight nerves.

– Field of over 100 bison quietly grazing

• Calgary Airport Lunch: Edo Japan
– Sam dove into an “assumable” (extra-large beef teriyaki) bowl—trip down memory lane to university days.
– Audrey warmed up with spicy beef ramen and we shared salmon-avocado sushi.

• Flight Boarding & Empty Neighbors
– No seatmates meant extra elbow room and a calm boarding process—cheers to that!

• Frankfurt Airport Currywurst Pit-Stop
– Real German currywurst with tangy curry sauce, fries and fresh bread mid-transfer—far better than Tim’s!

• Frankfurt Train Station Drama
– Lost-and-Found Heroics: Audrey’s phone went missing in the seat-back pocket.
– After panicked airport sprints and staff detective work, we rescued it—proof that calm, solution-oriented travel mindset pays off.

• Arrival at Woodland Cabins
– Door-to-door travel marathon (car, bus, plane, train, taxi!).
– Checked into cosy forest cabins—essential nap and hot shower awaited.

• Dinner at Hilde und Heinz
– Shared the hearty Saarland schnitzel smothered in bacon-cream sauce and the regional meat-and-dumpling sampler.
– Rich mushroom gravies, pillowy dumplings and perfect fries left us satisfied.

• Morning Departure & Rainy Farewell
– Packed up under grey skies (we brought the rain!), ready for our Black Forest adventures tomorrow.
