This episode begins right behind the cottage — quite literally through the gate and up the hill — but unfolds into something much deeper, older, and altogether more remarkable.

We set off from our 18th-century home at Kirkfell, expecting nothing more than a spring walk in the sun, but the Highlands had other plans. What follows is one of the most moving and unexpectedly magical days we’ve ever filmed.

Bathed in turquoise skies and warm Highland light, we wander into the past — through forgotten farmland, over mossy paths, and straight into a landscape layered with history. We discover the ruins of an early Christian Celtic church, its stones worn smooth by centuries of weather and silence, tucked away quietly as though it had simply waited to be remembered.

Not far beyond, we find the remains of an 18th-century Highland homestead, with fragments of Victorian furniture still inside, and a beautifully eerie Art Deco water pump station from the 1940s — all gently collapsing into the earth but still telling their stories. We even unearth a 150-year-old horseshoe, rusted but perfectly shaped, as if its owner had passed only days ago.

Above us, eagles soar, and cuckoos call across the glen. The air is still and bright — the kind of day that feels sacred without ever saying so.

And then: a cry. A lamb, lost and alone, its mother nowhere in sight. What could we do but help? Katie steps in, gently guiding the wee one back to its mother — a tender, heart-full moment that somehow anchors the entire day.

We sit on a stone wall to eat cheese and onion sandwiches — a simple pause in the middle of everything — and reflect on the weight of what we’ve found and how strange it is that such beauty lies just behind our own cottage garden.

There's laughter, quiet, a little nonsense, and one of the most soulful drone flights we’ve ever done — capturing the scale of it all: sky, ruin, hill, and home.

If you're already walking this journey with us — thank you. If you're new here, welcome to the quiet rhythm of life in the Highlands, where every walk seems to open a new chapter in the land's long story.
