A visit to a turtle hatchery, near Galle, in South Sri Lanka. There are some mixed feelings on interacting with turtles, specially the newborns, in these facilities.
They are made for tourists, some better than others. People go there to see the baby turtles so there's a chance they keep them longer than they should. In fact, there's a strong chance of these turtles losing memory of the beach they were supposed to be born, so they will struggle to come back and lay eggs. Some will lose their strength on before released and won't make it to the ocean, that is, if they are released on the proper timing.
On the other hand, some other turtles are kept and healed, after hitting boats, being caught on nets, or eating plastic.

We tried not to be judgemental and just enjoy the experience.
