Title: Isolation
Graphite on 11 x 14 Bristol Paper
I did this drawing right after the quarantine started and had some extra time on my hands. The flower shape in the center I imagine is filled with ice and there are tiny figures standing on the edge. My subject matter is unusual. My source material comes from paint swirls/splatters on acetate. Sort of like a greyscale or colorful Rorschach test. The imagery for me is like looking at raw organic material that creates objects, animals, people and scenery. If you turn these in any direction the imagery changes and becomes different objects, animals, people and scenery. For me it’s like looking into another dimension that is always changing depending on my interpretation of it.
It makes for interesting painting because I don’t know what I’m painting until it materializes later. Sometimes years will go by and then suddenly I notice a whole new perspective or figure and am shocked I never saw it before. It’s the same when other people tell me what they see. It’s always different than what I imagined.
The music I made in GarageBand.
