American R&B singer and songwriter Johnny Gill was born on May 22, 1966, in Washington, D.C. Even though his parents did eventually split up, he says that he got enough of the experience of living in a 2 parent household to show him what positive family life was like. The youngest of four boys, Johnny started singing at the age of five and learned how to play the electric guitar after receiving one as a Christmas gift. Him and his family, including cousins, aunts and grandmother, put together their own group called The Gospel Stimulation. Later, Johnny and his three brothers would branch out on their own to create a band called Little John and the Wings of Faith.
