Who should own this little town in France? You see, the Spanish-French border is really strange and this island that flips from one country to the other every 6 months it’s not the only odd think here. Looking at the border everything looks normal until you see this: a Spanish exclave inside France. This is the town of Pyreneessssssss, located in the region of Cerdanya and home to just 1500 people.
But why does it belong to Spain? Well, in 1659 Treaty of the Pyrenees, Spain agreed to give all the villages north of the line defining the Pyrenees to France. Although the French believed that Llívia would be theirs, the Spanish contested this by pointing out that Llívia was the old capital of Cerdania and there was no way to consider it a village, but rather a town. And this why it belong to Spain now. But the interesting part is that the people of Llívia do not consider themselves Spanish or French, but rather Catalans as the town is part of the Catalonia. In 2017 Independence referendum, 90% of the people in Catalonia voted for independence, but the referendum was considered illegal by the Spanish government. So
