Anyone who knows me, or at least follows my posts, will realise that our family is not exactly keen on codified christian occasions, such as xmas. We simply don't do it. Instead we celebrate the Winter Solstice, the true Yule, which in the southern hemisphere falls in June. However, there is just *one* aspect of xmas we cannot resist. And that's all the pretty wee flashing lights. Especially with the children it's a fun thing to go round and visit the houses that make the efforts to be outstanding each year.
It's a pity that this happens just before the Summer Solstice rather than the Winter Solstice as close to the longest day of the year there is not much time between the Sun Set & the time people are switching off.
Interestingly, some of the people who do the lights agreed wholeheartedly with this point.
