New Batman video game lets players wear a rainbow suit from the comics – and people are pressed.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight lets users equip Batman with a rainbow suit from the classic comics – and people are claiming the optional outfit from Bruce Wayne’s canon is ‘woke’.

The newly announced video game LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight was revealed at gamescom 2025, and most prospective players are thrilled at returning to a blockified version of Gotham City, Arkham Asylum and more.

LEGO Batman will see players take control of the Caped Crusader and his allies, drawing on aspects from the Dark Knight’s previous outings across films, video games and DC comics.

As confirmed in 31 minutes of gameplay posted by IGN, players will have the option to have the world’s greatest detective equipped in different looks – including, it turns out, a very fetching Batman rainbow suit.

The suit is a stark departure from Batman’s usual black/ grey/ blue colour palette, and was first featured in the Detective Comics #241 – in 1957.

Written by Edmond Hamilton and drawn by Sheldon Moldoff, the comic sees Batman have a need to dress in different coloured suits in order to distract criminals and the public from an injury sustained by sidekick Robin that could be linked back to civilian alter-ego Dick Grayson.

And of course, despite the suit being fully canon for nearly 60 years, the concept of Batman wearing a rainbow suit (in a universe where he fights mutated man-crocodiles, sociopathic clown-themed serial killers and more), is just too much for some people.

“There was no need for rainbow Batman”, one X user wrote.

“This so woke ahh” another commented, and a third wrote: “A gay Batman? I’m so glad Kevin Conroy didn’t have to be around to see this”

To clarify once more, and as pointed out by several other X users: the Batman rainbow suit is from a comic written nearly 60 years ago, and has made multiple appearances since.

“Some of you clearly don’t know your Batman history,” one pointed out.

The official synopsis of the game readss: “The adventure begins with the origins of Batman as a young Bruce Wayne trains with The League of Shadows, and throughout the story-led campaign, players will build a family of allies with well-known characters including Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul to help confront an ever-growing threat from a Rogues Gallery of DC Super-Villains, facing the likes of The Joker, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, Bane, and more.”

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, from TT Games and Warner Bros. Games has no specific release date, but will launch sometime in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
