The goal is to enjoy a summer salad with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden in it!

1️⃣ Pick a bolt resistant variety. When temps get too warm, lettuce will bolt (go to seed). There are varieties that are better suited for warm temperatures!

This lettuce variety from @HighMowingOrganicSeeds produces extremely well and has thrived in the driest conditions we’ve seen in years. I linked it in our bio 🎉

2️⃣ Harvesting regularly stimulates the plant to produce new leaves. It prevents the lettuce plant from bolting prematurely as the plant focuses its energy on producing new leaves rather than flowering and producing seeds.

3️⃣ Lettuce is a cool weather crop meaning that it prefers cooler temperatures. The @BootstrapFarmer shade cloth does a great job of shading the area and keeping the temperatures cooler.

Our goal is to keep our lettuce producing for as long as possible! I think I’m also going to experiment with planting some lettuce in the next week to see if I can have a lettuce crop in the summer. Do you think it’ll work?!
