Stone Sour is an American hard rock band formed in 1992 by Joel Ekman and later lead singer of Slipknot, Corey Taylor. The band didn't really get going and played in small venues and only managed to fill up for an hour, until guitarist Jim Root joined the band in 1995. But in 1997, Taylor quit the band to join Slipknot. Each band member went his own way, Joel started working seriously on his family, Jim joined Slipknot a year later and Shawn became the stage manager of Slipknot. It seemed like the end of Stone Sour until Josh helped Corey write lyrics in 2000. And after a year and a half of writing lyrics, Stone Sour was back on the map. In 2002 the band released their first album, it contained many songs from demos they had released years before, the album was a success and provided the breakthrough of the band. In 2006, Joel Ekman left the band due to his child's serious illness. In 2006, the band released the album Come What(ever) May. The drums on this CD are played by Roy Mayorga (ex-Soulfly) who later became the new drummer. In 2007 the band performed at Pinkpop and in 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2013 the band performed at Graspop Metal Meeting. In 2003 and 2018 the band performed at Rock Werchter on Main Stage.
