On Nyepi day's eve (Balinese New Year) there is the Pengerupukan ceremony, where everyone takes boiled rice to bring home, among offerings and prayers. This year, Indonesia was officially closing due to CoVid, and so it remained for over 6 months. At that time, (despite the pandemics being advertised to had started from November, or even earlier), there were not yet restrictions. Tulamben have, at least, two Chinese dive centres, where Chinese tourists were forced to stay, at least, until April or May. Despite the Chinese tourist presence, the total absence of social distance and no mask wearing, there were 0 cases of Covid, reported (at least, until December 2020). On that same day, Ogoh-Ogoh parade, was forbidden, on the excuse of CoVid.
Balinese ceremonies were still being conducted, openly or in the clandestinity, during CoVid time, with no real effective measures, and overall populations kept remaining CoVid free.
