Blood flows in one direction through the heart’s four chambers, preventing backward flow. The heart has four valves: tricuspid (between right atrium and right ventricle), pulmonary (between right ventricle and pulmonary artery), mitral (between left atrium and left ventricle), and aortic (between left ventricle and aorta). Each valve has flaps that open to allow blood to move forward and close tightly to stop backflow. During each heartbeat the atrioventricular valves open as the atria contract, letting blood enter the ventricles. When the ventricles contract, these valves close and the semilunar valves open, allowing blood to exit the heart to the lungs or body. Proper valve function maintains efficient, unidirectional blood flow, supporting healthy circulation and oxygen delivery throughout the body. #heart #health #heartbeat
