A simple method to partition C drive in Windows 10 if you got a brand new laptop. In general, having one partition is not that convenient to organize files and folders. So, it is better to partition the operating system drive into new simple volumes as it gives more space to classify the workspace. Here are the steps to partition C drive in Windows 10 without formatting the disk.
First, right-click on 'This PC' icon and choose 'Manage'. If you don't see the icon 'This PC' check this video:
Once you do that, under the 'Storage' section, find 'Disk Management' and choose it.
Here you will find the C drive with most of the hard disk storage.
To create a new simple volume with the desired storage, right-click on Windows C drive then select 'Shrink Volume' to partition C drive in Windows 10 without formatting.
When you do this, you will be asked to enter the desired storage as unallocated space. This means the number you enter here will get you a new volume as an unallocated space by which you can sub-divide into two new simple volumes. The remaining storage will be taken by the operating system which is C drive.
Now click on 'Shrink' to get the unallocated volume. Now we have around 600 GB of unallocated storage from which we are going to create new simple volumes of D and E drives with around 300 GB of storage each.
To do that, right-click on the unallocated free space then choose 'New Simple Volume' to launch the setup Wizard.
Now enter the required storage and in my case, I'm going with 300 GB then click on Next then again Next then check the file system then choose Next, and finalize the settings by choosing Finish.
Now you get a new simple volume of 300 GB of storage with a new drive.
Repeat the same steps to create another drive with the leftover storage. I'm going to assign the drive letter as E.
There we have another drive with a free space of 300 GB.
Like the way, you can partition C drive to few more drives in #Windows10 without formatting the entire hard disk for good.
