
Em: the tonic of the key of E minor
G: the chord on the third degree and the relative major key
D: the chord on the 7th degree of the E minor scale (subtonic)
A: the subdominant of E minor, but here as a major chord
C: the chord on the 6th degree of the E minor scale, but also the subdominant of the relative major key G major.
