Welcome to my art film! This started off as a musical composition, but I ended up loving the music so much I had to put it to video. I hope you love it, too!

No, this is not my typical educational video on scales, rhythms, or how to think about music. This is my art. I'm putting it on my channel as an example of my work. This is what you can do when you understand how to manipulate notes and rhythms. Music theory can't make the sky turn orange (as far as I know), but it can help you make good music choices to get you to where you want to go.

The theme of this piece is in the opening riff using an Asus2 with minor tonality in the scale and a slow 5/4 time. My biggest musical influences were Pink Floyd and Tool, although I don’t know that you can really hear their influence in the music. There are quite a few other time signatures in the piece including a 6/8 part at the end that cadences to either 5/8 or 7/8. Can you count the time as it plays?

I recorded the bass on my 6-string Ibanez BTB and the guitars on my wife’s gorgeous Strat, with the exception of the “trippy/bendy” guitar towards the beginning which was recorded by one of my long-time students, Max in Washington D.C. I programmed the drums using sounds from Addictive Drums 2. The rest of the instruments are programmed using sounds from the EastWest library.

The video was inspired by my walks at Chamber Bay in my town of University Place, WA. Most of the footage was shot there with the exception of the water shots which were filmed in Ruston on the waterfront.

The thoughts and feelings that inspired this film to come together as a whole come from the idea that humans will eventually vacate the earth one way or another, and we shall leave many things behind. These pictures are meant to hypothesize what may be when we all are gone. What will it look like? What kind of world shall the earth inherit from us? Your guess is as good as mine.
