Hey music junkies, Professor of Rock always. Here to celebrate the greatest artists and the greatest songs of all time. If you remember this commercial, you’ll dig this channel of deep musical nostalgia. Make sure to subscribe right now. It’s time for another edition of our show Revelations, where featured artists take us for a deep dive behind their greatest songs and albums. Today I have one part of the legendary partnership…mega cool rockstar marriage known as Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. Neil Giraldo who is one of the greatest guitarists ever who not only helped produce, create and solo on some of the Pat’s Biggest hits of the 80s including Heartbreaker, Shadows of the Night, and We Belong to Jessie’s Girl With Rick Springfield and the electric solo in Don’t Fight it, the duet between Steve Perry and Kenny Loggins Don’t Fight it
But today he tells the story of transforming the classic 80s anthem Love is a Battlefield that started out as a methodical ballad written by the hitmakers Mike Chapman, who wrote a ton of hits and produced classics like My Sharona and Heart of Glass and then Holly Knight, who wrote classics like The Warrior, Rag Doll and The Best. They were having a songwriting session and were struggling to hitch onto a song idea, but then Mike Chapman blurted out a random phrase as a joke Saying we need some saying like Love is a Battlefield, and as soon as he blurted it out. They knew they had something… So they wrote the song as a heartfelt ballad and brought it to Neil Giraldo and Pat Benatar. And he heard something different. Up next, I have Neil Giraldo and Holly Knight to give us the story, next on Professor of Rock.
