We went to our first Canadian Rodeo and it was quite the experience! Since relocating to Alberta, we've been going on lots of day trips and fun adventures to get to know our new home province, and when we saw there was a pro rodeo happening, we knew we had to attend. In this video, we'll bring you along for our first rodeo experience - we had no idea what to expect! We didn't even know what the events were before attending, but we ended up watching things like bull riding, bronc riding, barrel racing and more. It was nice to see the whole town coming out to support their local event, and we ended up having a good time. This felt like the introduction we needed to Alberta culture and we might just be ready to attend the Calgary Stampede next year!

Our First CANADIAN RODEO Experience! 🇨🇦🤠 What to Expect and Experience at a Rodeo in Alberta, Canada

Rodeo Road Trip Kickoff
– The video opens with Audrey, Sam (“the Canadian cowboy”) and their dad Daniel piling into the car, all dressed in mismatched rodeo–inspired outfits. Audrey even dons a gaucho hat from her Argentine horse trek to channel her “inner cowboy.”

Heading to the AEG Grounds
– They’re en route to their first ever rodeo at the AEG (Agricultural) Grounds in Southern Alberta. It’s 5:15 pm on a steamy summer Friday—perfect timing to dodge the midday heat before the pro bull riding kicks off at 6:30.

Rodeo Admission
– At the gate they each pay $20, get stamped with a maple-leaf admission mark, and settle in under the bleachers in search of shade.

Cooling Off with Local Brews
– Audrey grabs a Kokanee, Sam opts for a Coors Glacier Fresh. They laugh as a sprinkler tractor mists the track—so they take matters into their own hands and pull the “Zamboni treatment” on themselves.

Alberta Beef Double Cheeseburgers
– Working up an appetite, they hit the concession stand for double-patty Alberta-beef cheeseburgers. Thick, juicy and very “real beef,” these burgers fuel them for the evening’s action.

Molly the Moose Ice Cream
– Next stop: Molly’s Mercantile ice cream window. No soft-serve today, but dozens of flavours of scooped—Audrey goes for strawberry, Sam braves “Tiger” (orange-licorice), and they sample blueberry-cheesecake and mint-choc-chip. Generous $5 waffle cones keep them cool.

Rodeo Intermission
– Between bites, they wander the grounds, discovering children’s barrel races, cowgirl roping contests, and three-generation family competitors proudly announced by the ringmaster.

Pro Rodeo Highlights
– The bull riding begins: Sam and Audrey cheer as cowboys face off against 1,200 lb bulls. The kids’ events steal their hearts—those pint-sized cowpokes posting jaw-dropping rides.

Community & Camaraderie
– They note the packed stands, the laid-back Alberta hospitality, and how the rodeo brings everyone—from toddlers to grandparents—together for an evening of thrills.

Scouting Vantage Points
– Determined to see every angle, the trio hustles between bleacher rows, soaking in the sand-splashed arena and the echoing “yee-haws.”

Beating the Crowds
– Opting to leave before the grand finale, they dodge the exodus of over a thousand fans, keen to unwind before the drive home.

First Alberta Rodeo Impressions
– Audrey reflects on how casual and family-friendly the rodeo felt—kids running free, parents cheering without worry—so different from big-city events back in Toronto.

Rodeo Takeaways
– They agree: whether you’re a rodeo regular or first-timer, you’ll love the raw energy, the beefy concessions, and the genuine sense of community spirit.
