This era is indeed the era where African countries that have been under the influence of France are breaking free and it all starts with a change in government. Think about it. Immediately after the previous government in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso was overthrown and a new one installed, France's influence began to fall like a pack of dominoes, so much so that it is now widely known in the world that France has lost in the Sahel. Now, while France is dealing with this loss, it just experienced another blow from one of its former colonies which has had a very stable relationship with France. This country is none other than Senegal and not surprisingly, the blow comes from the newly installed administration in Senegal. Since its Independence, Senegal has maintained a close military, economic, and cultural relationship with France. It is also well known that the former president of Senegal, Macky Sall, had a very good relationship with French President Macron.
However, the new administration of Senegal, led by President Faye is looking toward changing this relationship so that Senegal will gain more from it. Recently, the Prime Minister of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, a firebrand politician, known for criticizing perceived overreach by France in its former colony, gave a fiery speech at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, where he criticized the presence of French Military presence not just in Senegal but also in other countries. In today's video, we will be analyzing some of the things he said. One of the first things he spoke on was regarding Europe’s relationship with Africa, specifically about France’s relationship with Senegal. He said that Africa’s ties with Europe are intertwined with suffering and Africa, the cradle of humanity, has often been the stage for unfair exploitation dictated by external interests. Therefore, there is a need for everyone involved to re-evaluate the historical patterns and to promote a fair partnership with an unprecedented urgency.
