I couldn't capture the tone I wanted with my SM57 no matter where I placed it. Close miking a tone like this doesn't sound very good and a room mic captures its power much better. The SM57 doesn't work well as a room mic but my phone surprisingly sounded better as a room mic than the Shure. I only have the SM57 and will hopefully soon invest in a second mic to capture the room sound.
