He asked for the price of a meal but they refused to take his money. Turns out, this restaurant is a charity. Everything is free. The workers don't even get a salary. They are all volunteers.
They even give out free haircuts. It was started 10 years ago and everything they all are donated as well. The community helps out the restaurant when they can and although they don't give out barbershop quality haircuts, no one minded. The food are delicious as well.
They even gave the foreigner a free meal despite the fact that it's made for people who actually need it. The man was grateful and went to a local cured meat shop to have a taste test. He ended up buying one of every flavor.
It was close to new year so he thought the volunteers would appreciate the gifts. The was right. But he also caught them by surprise and they were delighted to receive the gifts.
By the way, this man seems to be travelling across China. I don't know how he learned Mandarin but he speaks very well with minimal accent.
Let's hope this restaurant stays open!
