Here’s another song I wrote and performed, this time about the Second Swedish Crusade in Early Old Swedish (klassisk fornsvenska) during the middle of the 13th century. The song is based loosely on the Erikskrönikan (Eric Chronicle) which details some of the events during the Northern Crusades. According to the Chronicle, King Erik XI sent his men into battle against the Tavastians, a sub-group of the Fins, who were pagan at the time. The Crusade was an extension of the ongoing strife which saw Finland become part of the growing Swedish state.

The song is in a slightly different style; it’s actually an adaptation of a metal song I wrote with my brother quite some time ago.

My intention is exclusively to teach history and languages through song. I do not condone, endorse or seek to glorify violence.
