Ah yes, another Slam Jam Vol. 1 gem! After betraying Dustin Rhodes (understandably so) on November 21st, 1992 at the Clash Of The Champions 21, big Barry Windham's character took a newer, darker turn so to speak. No longer a nice, determined and brother-in-arms guy, but also not a proud, swaggered, cocky individual as he was in the Horsemen days. Windham's personality switched among the situations he was put in, mostly to a cold-blooded mind with some traits of arrogance. Also, he dubbed himself "The Lone Wolf" as he wanted nothing to do with anyone else other than himself. With that being said, he had a short alliance with Flyin' Brian Pillman (who he partnered with to try and snatch WCW the tag titles from Ricky Steamboat and Shane Douglas to no avail) and Stunning Steve Austin, and also had a short alliance with Big Van Vader, Paul Orndorff, The Barbarian (before he got sacked) and Harley Race to take on Sting, Cactus Jack, Ron Simmons and Dustin Rhodes. Around that time, Windham was also bulking up, letting his mustache grow like his father's, his blonde hair grow even longer, and added a new variation of the DDT into his arsenal. The peak of this era was obviously when he defeated The Great Muta at Superbrawl III to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, a belt he wore proudly as he was bred in the traditional old school territories (especifically Florida) where the NWA belt was the most sought prize in all pro-wrestling. Sadly, all good things come to an end, as Windham's knee started to give in, and he dropped the title to the returning Ric Flair on July 18, 1993 at Beach Blast.
Anyways, this song in particular debuted on the December 19, 1992 edition of WCW Saturday Night, where he faced Shane Douglas. A mixture of "Smokin'" by Boston and "La Grange" by ZZ Top, this song manages to bring us some insight of who was big Barry Windham was (and maybe some foreshadowing as it was released before his heel turn) and treats us with the greatness that was this era of WCW!
