Science has a problem.

There are some words and terminology that we use when describing science in English. Because people who aren’t sciency end up regularly interpreting them differently to how scientists do. Often this is because of how language works, or how it changes over time.

In this video, we look at the scientific and colloquial definitions of terms like "theory", "instantaneous", "energy", "free energy", and "conservation of energy".

We understand how scientists define them, and how they can easily be misinterpreted by people who aren't science fans.

I think it's really important for those of us in the science bubble to accept that language varies across different areas of thought, and NOT look down on people who use these words differently to us. It's really important to clarify what we mean by them in order to avoid the spread of misinformation.
