Koray had been experimenting with electrifying traditional Turkish instruments in Istanbul's underground scene. Priya came from a background of classical Indian training before embracing Western bass techniques. Jean-Michel brought his experience from the French electronic scene, while Elena contributed her background in Spanish avant-garde and field recording techniques.
What began as experimental sessions quickly evolved into a fully-formed project when their improvised recordings caught the attention of independent label Zaruret Records. Their distinctive sound—blending Middle Eastern modal scales with Western psychedelic structures and electronic production—created something genuinely unique in the crowded psychedelic scene.
The band's name references both the visual phenomenon of phosphenes (the light patterns seen with closed eyes) and the spectral, transcendent quality they aim to capture in their compositions. Their music creates bridges between cultural traditions that might otherwise never intersect.
Desertghost built their reputation through mesmerizing live performances across Europe and limited-edition vinyl releases. They maintain a mysterious presence, rarely giving interviews and letting their instrumental music speak for itself.

*DEBUT ALBUM: "Giza Nights" (2021)*
Released on Zaruret Records, "Giza Nights" was recorded in an abandoned 19th-century glass factory in southern France. The band utilized the building's unique acoustics, capturing natural reverberations and ambient sounds that became integral to the album's texture.
The album was recorded primarily on vintage analog equipment, with minimal digital processing. The group incorporated field recordings from their respective homelands—Turkish bazaars, Indian temples, Spanish coastlines, and French urban environments—creating a rich tapestry of cultural references.
All tracks are purely instrumental, focusing on creating immersive soundscapes that evolve gradually through subtle variations. The album received critical acclaim in underground music publications for its innovative fusion of traditional elements with contemporary psychedelic structures.
