When we're driving our Redarc dc-dc charger does a perfect job of keeping our secondary battery at full charge. This panel is mainly intended to power our camping fridge when the engine isn't running. It's a foldable, portable, series of solar cells that require no drilling or hard wiring.
This is a statement from the maker of the panel that contains important details on its construction:
"By making engineered cuts in the Sunpower Maxeon III cells and wiring them in a way to maximize open voltage we are able to generate real power in less than ideal light including overcast conditions when most solar simply does not generate enough power to even turn the charge controller meaning the battery will not charge. Maxeion cells are 23.7% efficient which translates to approximately 30% more power over most solar, there are dozens of patents on the technology in these cells. The higher efficiency also means you can use multiple extensions if needed up to 45 feet away from the camper or battery with insignificant loss. Most solar chargers cannot be extended past included 15 feet especially post controller. This means we can make much smaller and lighter chargers while generating more power. If a solar charger must be large and heavy to make the same power, it tends not be brought along or deployed when power is needed."
"We only use the most durable materials, with our US Berry compliant 1050D ballistic nylon, our chargers can withstand the real world abuse from expedition travel, military units, and the rest of those who must have reliable power. We will never use 330 or 500D nylons that simply cannot hold up to the real world use of our customers. Most fabric backed charging units are made from these much thinner materials. The metal D ring attachment points are reinforced for heavy pull strength to be useful when strapped on outer gear."
