Why is it that whenever we talk about the coup-led countries in the Sahel that are making waves and changing the order of things, it's always Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso but never Guinea? It's as if we forget that just like Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, Guinea is currently ruled by President Mamadu Doumbouya who like Captain Traore came into power through a coup in 2021. So, why is it that despite the fact that he came to power through a coup, his leadership is not making waves or threatening the West as much as the military government in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso? What exactly differentiates Colonel Mamady from Captain Traore? Why is he not part of the recently established Alliance of the Sahel? Let's find out in this video.

Since Colonel Mamady came into power in 2021, he has only been in the spotlight, three times. The first time was when he took over the helm of leadership from Alpha Conde in September 2021. The second was when he showed support with Mali and Burkina Faso when the coup first occurred in Niger and also during his powerful speech at the 78th United Nations General Assembly. The third time is the most recent when he dissolved the government in Guinea. Aside from all these times, Guinea and its interim president have been pretty calm compared to all that has been happening since the military government took over in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. While Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso have kicked French forces out of their countries, Guinea under the leadership of Colonel Mamady has not done anything of such. In 2022, France quietly resumed military cooperation with Guinea with Colonel Mamady asking the French military for support in securing its north-east border with Mali.
