American St. Patrick’s Day Vs British St. Patrick’s Day - how do they differ? It was quite apparent, when arriving in the United States from England, that celebrating St. Paddy’s Day was on a totally different scale over here. There are big parades, green-colored drinks and food, and a host of other festivities in many cities. Chicago famously dyes its river green. Even here in Arizona, the town of Fountain Hills celebrates by turning its famous, second-highest fountain in the world, green!

One thing we were surprised by was the tradition of eating corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day. Coming from England, we had never heard of that before.
