The most intense of the seventh chord etudes is this clouds of diminished seven. This is achieved through the double diminished sound. The double diminished sound is achieved through a very tightly closed voicing scheme where both hands wind up almost on top of each other for maximum tension. To the listener's ear there is lots of motion but the pianist will notice that the fingers do most of the work while the hands remain stationary. This is also a great opportunity to apply those octatonic scales of alternating half steps and whole steps.
