This gate hides the story of one of the worst fire disasters in the Philippines. But, most importantly, this could never have happened. This was the Ozone Disco Club in Quezon City where, on March 18, 1996, during a very crowded night mostly with students, an electrical control panel short-circuited, rapidly spreading both fire and smoke. However, there were no sprinklers, fire extinguishers were defective, and the emergency exit was blocked by a new building beside it. In addition to this, the panic inside was so loud that the guards blocked this one small exit, thinking that there was a riot. After the fire, most of the bodies were piled right behind this door. 162 people lost their lives, and many others were injured. Today, this place has since been demolished but remains a haunting reminder of the importance of safety standards.
