When the old man saw him, he quickly walked away but the young man stopped him, thinking he was hungry and brought him to the restaurant.
The old man didn't eat much so the young man bought some food for the old man to take home. Once at the old man's home, he noticed that the old man's house was very messy and dirty. However, he has books by the side of his bed. Which was a rare sight for an old man.
The next day, they met again and he took the old man to pick out new clothes but the old man didn't want to change at the store because the employee was a woman and he refused to take off his clothes around a woman.
So the man brought him next to a field where no one was around and helped changed him. He also helped cut the old man's nails including his toenails.
They got to know each other better and the young man learned that the old man used to have very good grades. In fact, he was considered so smart that he became a local legend. Everyone had high hopes for him but he had to drop out of high school to work manual jobs.
His peers ended up becoming successful. Some anyway. Some become principals, some become doctors. The man's self esteem was shattered and he has never recovered since.
He now picks garbage and does recycling for a living. The young man now often drops by to give the old man some much needed essentials and the old man is happy to see him every time.
Although the old man didn't ended up reaching his potential, his life is still not a waste and let's hope he knows that.
