Nothing is more scary than finding yourself lost in a cave of total darkness. This is the account of Rachel Cox, who was exploring the Wind Cave with her classmates when her light went out. She was paired with a partner with the task of locating the instructor's hiding spot within the cave. Since Rachel had only recently explored the cave a few days prior, Rachel was confident that she would find the instructor quickly. However, after convincing her teammate to wriggle through a narrow tunnel to look, the instructor was nowhere to be found. This infuriated and scared her teammate, so Rachel decided to head back to Camp. At that point, Rachel's light went out, leaving her alone in the dark, and instead of staying put, she tried to squeeze her way through the way she had remembered going initially. This was a mistake for her as she had no idea where she was, becoming disoriented in the darkness. After going through the incorrect passage, Rachel was rescued 36 hours later. This story ends well, but there are lesson to be learned. Be careful in any cave.
