On 17 Decemeber 1980, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh visited ITN House on London's Wells Street, the headquarters of ITN between 1969 and 1991. The Queen and the Duke were given a tour of the building by ITN's Editor-in-Chief, David Nicholas, and ITN Chairman John Freeman, and spent time with Head of Engineering Peter Ward, getting to grips with ITN's new electronic newsgathering technology. With some help from Peter Sissons and Anna Ford, veteran presenter Alastair Burnet explained the newsroom side of things to the Queen.
