Did you know two European countries almost went to war because of a name.
I'm sure you are aware of the great Macedonian Empire and its even greater emperor Alexander the GOAT. Greece is very proud of this history. So when Yugoslavia collapsed and a new country called Macedonia was formed Greece claimed this country was trying to steal its history.
In 2008 Greece even stopped NATO from inviting Macedonia. Macedonia responded by erecting a massive statue of Alexander the Great in its capital.
however this issue was finally resolved when Macedonia changed its name in 2019.
