James Hurt presents his first solo piano performance in Europe before a live audience and captures all of the nuances of Hurt's singular pianistic voice. The year is unclear yet it was before the 9-11attacks on the Twin Towers of lower Manhattan. This footage was said to have been lost forever and was digitally restored by James Hurt from VHS tape after over a twenty-year disappearance. The performance demonstrates Hurt's commitment to more than simply playing a string of notes as a demonstrative feat but rather the craft of arranging, remixing, and spontaneous composition in the moment which in turn supports the axiom of Jazz and Black American Music as 'music of the spirit'. Further Hurt also employs the uncanny ability to deconstruct and rebuild harmonic structures into ever-evolving frameworks for his improvisational excursions. Ultimately Hurt's pianistic approach utilizes orchestration at it's core. Hurt's performance ultimately exposes James Hurt the percussionist who has performed music of several genres in orchestral settings, big band, small ensemble, and marching bands from his early childhood up until moving to New York City in 1994. The solo performance of James Hurt at the piano gives a glimpse into the sonic expressions which are currently being celebrated by the likes of several younger artists who were directly influenced by his artistry.
