This month is the 50th anniversary of me making my very first record, Reaching For The Best by the Exciters. I had so many plans but life simply got in the way. Originally I thought of a live concert, to celebrate my 50 years of music, but that plan never really happened, so the one thing which I can do is to give you the best podcast ever made. 50 years of Northern Soul. 50 years of Motown. A chance to show off all of those records which people have danced to, but never knew were made by me, to the extent that we sometimes had to pretend that they weren't made by me. In February of 1975 I went into the studio with Herb Rooney, to produce The Exciters. Reaching For The Best was the very first song that I had ever written in my life. It went to number 31 on the pop charts. It became Radio Luxembourg's record of the week. The rest of that year was involved with producing Evelyn Thomas, LJ Johnson, Barbara Pennington, Carol Woods, Doris Jones, and Tyrone Ashley. By the Christmas of that year we made the album The Exciters for 20th Century Records. Condensing my career down to 75 records is not easy. I have produced published and written about three thousand songs. So many of these artists have passed away, and therefore this is my tribute for those people who I adored worked with, like Evelyn Thomas, Pat Lewis, Barbara Pennington, Edwin Starr, Tommy Hunt, and Marv Johnson. It's been a great honour putting this list together and making sure these were the right mixes, in order to present each song in the best possible light that I can give it to you. One day when I'm not here, I hope that my music will be remembered and will long outlive me.
