#blackhistory #africanews #ibrahimtraore President of Burkina Faso Ibrahim Traore said Africa’s Sahel region faced 'imperialistic pressure', as he visited D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology in Moscow on Saturday.
"And the Sahel [region] is part of the area feeling heavy pressure and influence of imperialism, and with all we are experiencing, I do hope we can honour the memory of all those people, soldiers, who sacrificed their bodies and souls and advanced our struggle against imperialism and neo-colonialism," he said.
Traore also emphasised the importance of science, particularly practical skills, giving Russian weapons production as an example. He said it was crucial not only to learn the theoretical basis, but to have sufficient laboratories, personnel and resources to innovate and create.
President Traore was among the leaders who joined a spectacular military procession marking the 80th Victory Day anniversary the day before. He visited the university and addressed the students as part of his Moscow's programme. The leader is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin later.
Russia celebrates Victory Day on May 9, while Moscow hosted its iconic Victory Parade on Friday. In addition to the Russian military, troops from 13 countries, including China, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Egypt, Mongolia, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, marched through Red Square.
