The Hodges lived happily in the historic Tudor-era Ballingdon Hall for over 12 years. In 1972, however, a factory was built 50 yards away which ruined their view. So, the Hodges moved house... literally!

Not wanting to part with their listed property or the scenic view over Sudbury it provided, the Hodges asked the Ministry of Housing if they could take it apart and rebuild it higher up the hill. No, said the ministry, you can't take it apart. So the Hodges paid a substantial sum to have the whole building dug out of its foundations, placed on a raised platform, and steadily chugged up the hill in one piece. It would then be planted in a new location with a vista untainted by the industrial eyesore that prompted the move in the first place.
