Decades ago he was convicted of low-level drug offenses that he's had to carry like a 2-ton anchor ever since - even after serving his time and remaining free of any wrongdoing since. Those days are over now, thanks to a free expungement courtesy of Project Clean Slate.
Project Clean Slate is a City of Detroit initiative that helps residents expunge criminal convictions and improve access to better employment, housing, and educational opportunities.
PCS is a free expungement program for Detroit residents. In the city of Detroit, it is estimated that 215,000 Detroiters have criminal records, and that there are approximately 168,000 individuals who are eligible for criminal record expungement.
However, many residents do not seek expungement for several reasons: they don't know they're eligible, they may be unable to afford attorney fees, they have had negative experiences with the criminal justice system, or they just don't know how to navigate the complex process. PCS was created to eliminate those barriers and support eligible Detroiters with the expungement process - FREE of charge!
