Did you ever wondered wat’s the strangest border in Europe?
Well, we have a lot of options, from the border between Italy and Slovenia with this 30 miles long panhandle to the one between Spain and United Kingdom represented by the Gibraltar exclave. But the strangest one has to be the border between The Netherlands and Belgium which at first glance seem to be pretty normal, but if we zoom in a little, we see these two towns here called Baarle-Nassau and Baarle Hertog. The twin cities are a unique geographical oddity that dates back to a land dispute from the 12th-century, resulting in a crazy patchwork of enclaves and exclaves between Belgium and the Netherlands that never got resolved.
In total, there are 22 Belgian enclaves in the Netherlands and 8 Dutch enclaves in Belgium. 7 of which are counter-enclaves.
As both of the countries are a part of the EU, the border is technically nonexistent.
