Here is a full, comprehensive chase of Union Pacific's LOW10 Torrance Local which runs from 4th Street Yard on the East Bank of the Metrolink River Subdivision, down the UP Wilmington Sub through South Central LA, onto the El Segundo and Torrance Industrial Leads all the way to the end of the line in Old Torrance, utilizing a trio of venerable Geeps spray-painted full of graffiti, with the rare and very unique GP40P-2 number 1375 leading, one of three ever produced by EMD. A GP38-2 mid-consist is also rare on this job, as there are usually only GP40s powering this train.

We begin our chase at its yard of origin, 4th Street, as it builds its train with the scenic LA city skyline backdrop. The train departs, snaking its way off the Metrolink River Sub onto the 9th Street Connector, where it enters UP territory, shortly running on a portion of the Alameda Corridor passing J Yard. We catch the train a few more times on the Wilmington Sub mainline through Vernon and South Central LA, which parallels the Metro Blue Line light rail, until it reaches the El Segundo Industrial Lead, splitting off from the double-tracked main at Watts. The Torrance Local will enter the Torrance Industrial Lead shortly thereafter, at the junction located in the tunnel under the I-105 freeway.

The train's first customer of the day is Phillips 66, a refinery adjacent to the Robertson's Ready Mix train unloading facility in West Rancho Dominguez. After a few switching moves done, the train proceeds southward, passing the famous street running section in Gardena, continuing on into Torrance. The train stops in Harbor Gateway at JCI Jones, a chemical plant, to pull and spot tank cars. Once complete, the engines run around the train at the Normandie runaround track, making a rare run shoving into Old Torrance, passing the historic Pacific Electric bridge in the heart of Downtown Torrance, ending at US Gypsum, a manufacturer of building and construction materials receiving small covered hoppers and boxcars, located at the site of the old Pacific Electric Torrance Shops. This industry is only served a few times a month, as business has slowed down significantly.

With switching complete, the train highballs north back to Gardena, where it will shuffle its cars around at the small siding and shove into Crenshaw Lumber, on a branch still retaining original early 1900's Pacific Electric bonded rail. In the recent past, this lead used to have a wig-wag crossing signal. After pulling and spotting centerbeams at the facility, we follow the train again through the street running and along Vermont Ave back to Phillips, where it will pick up some cars it left behind from its earlier switching work, then proceed to serve the Airgas Acetylene plant, an industry that receives shipments of calcium carbide on flat cars, only a couple times a month. With its final industry work done, the Torrance Local can now proceed back to the yard.

Retracing our steps back into LA, the train is seen entering the Wilmington main track at Watts after receiving authority from the train dispatcher. It picks up speed at Slauson Jct, the former site of the BNSF Harbor Subdivision diamond. Crossing the LA River at East Redondo with the scenic LA city skyline in the background, the train makes its way east into Weeds Yard in East LA on the UP Los Angeles Subdivision, where it will terminate for the day.

These shots were taken over several days in April 2025, and each day the train serves different industries. These shots were compiled together as one composite video to provide a comprehensive look at everything this local does, with the 1375 leading in almost every single shot. Thanks for watching!
