Today's wake 'n break is a four bar groove that is inspired by the 6/8 bembe bell pattern (but not the traditional bembe orchestration) with a halftime backbeat feel. Taking the hi-hat first, we have notes falling on 1, 3, 5, and 6 in the first and third bars, on 2, 4, and 6 in the second bar, and open notes on 2 and 4 in the fourth and final bar. Looking at the bass drum next, it's falling in unison with the hi-hats through the first two and a half bars. Last but not least, we come to our snare drum. Taking the ghost notes first, we have notes on 2 and 4 in the first bars, on 3 and 5 in the second bar, and on 2 and 4 in the third bar. Finally, we have accented notes on 1 in the second bar and on 1 and 6 in the fourth and final bar. As always, I hope you dig it and much love!
