Maybe it's the masters like Blind Blake that seem like they were from another planet. Maybe it's the fact that these bright and snappy melody lines are played over some moving bass lines.
Whatever makes this style so alluring, I'm certainly drawn to it. So, I've been on a mission over the last few years to become comfortable playing some sweet Piedmont Style progressions and licks. The key for me, was to break things down into their core components.
For fingerpicking some sweet blues, that means focusing on:
1. The Progression
2. The Bass Line
3. The Melody
The 'trick' if there is a 'trick' to learning finger picking blues is to learn how to perform each of these components at the same time.
Once these fundamental elements are under your fingers, we can add some fancy licks and fills. But even playing just the alternating bass line and the simple melody as shown in this lesson is a ton of fun to play.
IN THIS LESSON...
...we'll continue our study of a Piedmont Influenced tune we'll focus on bars 5 - 8 of a finger picking lesson.
